Miss Jessica's Connection: February - Wonderful Winter & Fabulous Friends

This month we finished our Wonderful Winter Unit and moved into our Fabulous Friends Unit.

Here's our February song:

After reading the book, "The Jacket I Wear in the Snow", we made a visual aid to retell the story.

We also chose items we would wear in the snow out of a variety of seasonal clothing.

We discussed what we would do during winter for fun, like the boy in the book.

After establishing a base for our writing experience by gathering information on winter activities, we worked together to write the words in a word bank.

The students referred to our word bank to construct their own text. They then illustrated their winter activity.

We also read the book, "The Mitten".

We had fun creating a visual aid to retell this story, as well.

We made our own "The Mitten" books. We ordered the animals in the correct sequence and glued them in the appropriate place within the sentence structure.

We then took turns reading our books to each other.

Simplifying the sentence structure and including repetitive statements allows the students to feel confidence in their early reading stages.

We began our Fabulous Friends Unit by learning the behaviors that make a good relationship. We talked about the different relationships in our lives and the importance of treating those we love with kindness. We practiced sharing, how to have a good conversation, speaking kindly, listening, putting others first, and showing love.

We put what we learned in good use during our Valentine Party!

We wrote and illustrated a "Love Book".

We thought of all the people we love and included them in our books.

For a fun math activity, we graphed the amount of each color conversation heart we had.

And we feasted on yummy treats!

One activity we did to practice our "Friendship Skills" was to work together and make cupcakes. We made sure to take turns, share, and encourage each other.
