Sense of Smell and St. Patrick's Day Fun!

This week we explored our sense of smell.
Ellie helped us "see" particles spread in the air until we could smell them.

Then Logan, starting at one end of the room, passed out scented hand sanitizer. We raised our hand when we could smell the particles on the opposite side of the room. Even though we couldn't see the particles moving through the air, we could detect them with our sense of smell.

Here we are imagining the smell of cookies baking in the oven - yum!

And here we are imagining the scent of a skunk - yuck!

We used our sense of smell to play "Name that Smell"

We explored all different kinds of smells and recorded what we liked, and those we didn't like.

We thought about if we could have any animal nose, which would we choose?
Then we drew a picture of ourselves with our new animal noses!

This week we began working on reading comprehension.
I read the children a short passage and then ask them 4-5 comprehension questions with two answers to choose from, A or B. They hold up the letter they think is the correct letter. This helps me assess the children individually without them knowing what anyone else chose.

We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day this week!
We colored and cut out a leprechaun . . .
Then constructed his arms and legs.
Love it when students help each other out!
And Voila! Our cute leprechauns!

Then we used our sense of smell to follow the magical leprechaun scent to a lucky treat left behind.
Little Sniffers
Success!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
