April 9th - Games, Games, Games!

This week we played lots of fun games!

Here are a few highlights:

 Our own version of Boggle.

The students wrote down all the letters they knew during a minute duration.  Then we went around and shared which letters we had found.

Next, we took turns identifying letter sounds and sight words in a fun card game, called "Hop".  Amongst the cards of letters and sight words were dispersed spring/easter pictures.  When a student came across a picture, they kept that card and it was the next student's turn.  Our goal was to earn as many pictures as we could.
First, I showed the students the cards . . .

Then, the students each took a turn showing the cards.

We also played "Building Words"
The students used letter cards to create CVC words.
Then they copied the words on an answer sheet.

"Building Words" led to a discussion of word families.
So next, we had fun making a variety of word family books.
In these books, the root of the 'word family', written on the back cover, remained the same.
The rest of the pages flipped to reveal different letters, creating new words.

And here's our April song!
